IRVINE, Calif. -- The 14th-ranked LMU women's water polo team added four more opponents in the top-25 to their resume this past weekend at the 2016 UC Irvine Invitational. The Lions have now faced 12 straight opponents from the nation's top-25.
The Lions went 1-3 over the weekend in the 16-team tournament. The entire field was in the top-25. The Lions defeated No. 25 CSUN, 8-5, on Sunday. They fell in the final game to No. 17 UC Santa Barbara, 15-12. The Lions opened with No. 4 Stanford (L, 13-5) and No. 13 UC San Diego (L, 9-8) on Saturday.
Ivana Castro led the Lions on the weekend with seven goals. Emily Byrne addd six while Bridgette Alvarez had four. In goal, freshman Sky Flores had 34 saves.
The ranked schedule continues next weekend when the Lions travel to the Michigan Invitational. They will open with No. 1 UCLA. They will play three games against the top-20.
