Oct. 15, 2016 LOS ANGELES - With the LMU women's basketball season less than a month away, the team shifted its focus Thursday night on professional development as it hosted the inaugural Meet the Mentors Social.
The meet and greet featured 10 professionals, who shared their career path before a "speed mentoring" session where groups of one to two student-athletes had a chance for a face-to-face discussion.
"Our first annual Mentor Meet and Greet was one of the best events we've done here at LMU," remarked head coach Charity Elliott. "Watching our diverse group of mentors share their experiences and pour into our players was awe inspiring! I was also so proud of our players for their professionalism and engagement with our mentors. I believe this program is going to be life changing for our players and the mentors!"
"My experience with the mentors was very eye opening for me!" stated junior Bree Alford. "It was amazing to talk to different women who have experience in so many fields. I learned so much and as a student-athlete I am so blessed to have the opportunity to learn from these accomplished women. Their knowledge will only help me in my quest to form my future path!"
"Meeting with the mentors was an amazing experience for me," said Bianca Velasco. "Lately I have been really focused and interested in my future after basketball and these inspiring woman got me very excited for what's to come. I can't wait to meet with them again!"
"It was an incredible experience!" exclaimed Rachael Ziemann, one of the mentors and a LMU women's basketball alum. "As much as having the opportunity to bring forth life beyond LMU, I personally was impacted by the student-athletes vigor and drive to be difference makers after their career as a college athlete. I know their is a need for more mentors for the college athlete and it is an honor to be part of this group to help in anyway possible. I thank Coach Charity and the staff for welcoming us into their current team family and seeing this need filled. I see a bigger vision for these women as they step out beyond their college career to impact their family, friends, community and country. May God bless each and every step as we move forward in this process. Much love and sincere thanks".
