LOS ANGELES - Trevor Manuel, a highly regarded product of Everett High School in Lansing, Mich., who played his first semester at Oregon, has transferred to LMU and joined the Lions program to start the spring semester. Head Coach Mike Dunlap announced the transfer this week as Manuel began attending classes at the start of the semester last week.
"We are excited to have Manuel join our program. We were in the position to get him into school right away and it worked out for everyone," said Dunlap. "He is a very talented player that will be a good fit to our program."
Manuel will serve a redshirt year and will be eligible beginning the end of the fall semester of 2016. He will be a redshirt freshman. He played nine games for the Ducks, scoring 10 points with nine rebounds.
The son of James Manuel and Sue Phillips, Manuel was a four-star recruit with a grade of 93 according to 247 Sports and 80 according to ESPN.com, who also rated him the No. 3 player out of the state of Michigan. As a senior season, he played at Everett High School, where his father played his high school basketball (as well as NBA legend Magic Johnson). He went on to earn Class A All-State honors after averaging 21.9 points per game.
Played his first two years of high school at Sexton High School, leading his team to the state championship his freshman year and making it to the regional round of the playoffs his sophomore year. He earned Class B All-State honors as a sophomore after averaging 12.1 points and 9.1 rebounds per game for Sexton. He transferred to Oak Hill Academy for his junior season, a school that has produced notable players such as Carmelo Anthony and Brandon Jennings, and helped that school finish the year 41-4 and advance to the championship game of the Dick's National High School Tournament at Madison Square Garden.
The Lions continue West Coast Conference play with Homecoming Week, starting on Thursday with BYU at 8 pm.
