SANTA CLARA, Calif. - LMU men's basketball had a plus-15 edge on the boards, hit 10 three-pointers, went 92.3 percent from the free throw line and earned a strong performance from their point guard to claim their first Bay Area sweep since 1992, defeating Santa Clara, 76-66, at the Leavey Center on Saturday night.

Junior Brandon Brown led the Lions (9-9, 2-5) with 22 points and nine assists as the Lions out-rebounded Santa Clara 38-23 and held a 21-3 edge in second chance points. In addition, they finished the game hitting 10-for-24 (41.7 percent) from three, 46.6 percent from the field and 92.3 percent from the free throw line (12-13), going 7-for-8 down the stretch to ice it.

"We out-rebounded them pretty good and that is really the first time we have been able to do that," said Head Coach Mike Dunlap. "We shot the ball with confidence and stayed aggressive defensively."

David Humphries, who had a career-high 20 points Thursday in the win over San Francisco, added 14 more points and seven rebounds off the bench. Adom Jacko added 12 points and six rebounds. Jared Brownridge had 20 points for the Broncos (7-13, 3-5).

The Lions have now won consecutive road games in conference for the first time since defeating BYU on 1/19/12 and at Santa Clara on 1/24/12. The Lions won five straight road games that season when the league had nine members and did not have a travel partner system. Under the travel partner system, it is the Lions' first Bay Area road sweep since defeating USF (Feb. 9, 1992) and SMC (Feb. 10, 1992).

Marin Mornar hit a three with 34 seconds to play to put the Lions up 33-26 at the break. Brownridge scored a three-point play to start the second half to cut the lead to four, 33-29. It would be the closest it would get. Buay Tuach and Brown each answered with three-pointers to push the lead to nine. Steven Haney then hit another three to give the Lions their first double-digit lead.

They would grow it to as large as 16 on a Humphries three and then hit their free throws down the stretch to secure the win. Humphries finished with four three-pointers, giving him 10 on the road trip.

The Lions return to Gersten Pavilion for homecoming week, starting with BYU on Thursday, Jan. 21 at 8 pm and then the 2016 Homecoming Game on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 3 pm against San Diego. The LMU Alumni Association tailgate party starts at 1 pm.
