Sept. 7, 2015 LOS ANGELES - Temperatures will once again rise in Southern California this week, and with it the early action in fall sports will heat up on the LMU campus this weekend. All told 10 games will be played on campus, including a Wells Fargo PCH Cup battle with a long-time rival and 19th-ranked men's soccer putting their unbeaten record on the line.
The action begins Thursday with LMU and Long Beach State co-hosting a tournament all weekend, starting with a head-to-head match-up at Gersten Pavilion. Game time is set for 7 pm and freshmen are encouraged to wear their Freshman Shirt to the game to receive free prizes.
Friday will be the busiest of days at LMU with volleyball hosting three games as part of the tournament, including Oakland taking on Stony Brook at 10 am, followed by Stony Brook taking on Central Arkansas at 2 pm. The Lions will end the day with Central Arkansas at 7 pm. The day will also include men's water polo making its home debut in a Wells Fargo PCH Cup showdown with Pepperdine. Game time for that is set for 3:30 pm. Women's soccer will end the day with Long Beach State under the lights at 7 pm.
Friday's games will honor Los Angeles' emergency crews in remembrance of Sept. 11. The women's soccer game will feature special recognition for LAPD, LAFD, ROTC and LA first responders.
Saturday will be more volleyball. The Lions will face Oakland at 10 am and then end with Stony Brook at 7 pm.
The weekend comes to a close with a soccer doubleheader at Sullivan Field. The women will take on UC Riverside at 1:30 pm, followed by unbeaten and 19th-ranked men's soccer taking on New Mexico at 4 pm. Men's soccer opens their week on the road, taking on CSU Bakersfield at 7:30 pm on Friday.
The Sunday doubleheader will feature a White-Out T-Shirt Giveaway and will feature Westchester AYSO Day at LMU Soccer.
