July 25, 2015 With the fall semester set to begin in just about a month, the LMU rowing program has announced the addition of a handful of talented student-athletes for next year. The Lions finished third overall at the 2015 West Coast Conference Championships.
Alexandria Bauer: In the summer of 2012, Alexandria went to the Canadian Henley, rowing with Oakland Strokes in the U-17 Women's eight event where she helped the boat to a second-place finish. In the summer of 2013, Bauer attended the U.S. Rowing Sculling Development Camp in Seattle, Wash. She also went to the Youth Nationals in 2013 at Oakridge, Tenn., rowing in the V8, and in 2014 stroking the Varsity Quad, after getting second at Southwest Regionals. Bauer, who was voted the Varsity Women's Team Captain for the 2014-2015 rowing year, chose to commit to LMU for a number of reasons including the religious aspect and small classroom sizes.
Danielle Rosh (coxn): Rosh has rowed for the Los Gatos Rowing Club for three years, serving as a coxswain. As a senior, she helped lead her team to the Head of Charles in the Varsity women's 8. An all-around athlete, she also participated in cross country and swimming for St. Francis High School, and has a black belt in mixed martial arts. Like her Los Gatos Rowing Club teammate Bauer, Rosh also considered a number of other schools, but chose to attend LMU because of the school's Jesuit beliefs, educational reputation, ethical presence, the school's rowing team, and the beautiful location.
Samantha Butterfield: Butterfield comes to LMU from St. Marks Rowing Club in Mass. She has rowed for St. Marks the past four seasons and competed this year in her club's Varsity 4+, leading them to an impressive fourth-place finish at NIERA. She was named Most Improved Player for the 2014-2015 season. She chose LMU for its location, small class sizes and friendly students.
Ruth Morris: Morris comes to the LMU program from Dublin, Ireland and graduated from Trinity College where she was voted Sportsperson of the Year in 2015. She has been rowing since she was 13 years old, and most recently was invited to try out for Ireland's LTWT National Team. She has medaled at the European University Rowing Championships, won three Irish National Rowing Championships and was the U23 Irish lightweight ergometer champion in 2011. Most recently, Morris represented Ireland last September at the World University Championship in France, placing fourth in lightweight double sculls. Morris chose LMU for its highly-ranked MBA program, its competitive rowing structure and the campus location.
Claire Bahain: Bahain comes to LMU from Angers, France. Bahain started rowing when she was 12 years old after her brother won the bronze medal at the Beijing Olympics. In 2014, Bahain finished third at the short boats championships in single scull and seven at the long boats championships. She went on to the European Championships in the double and finished ninth, and also finished 13th at the worlds. Bahain chose LMU for the rowing team's positive dynamic and the strong standing of the university.
Annabelle Chardonette: Chardonette comes to us from Radnor, Pa. In the summer of 2014, she stroked her club's V8 to the semifinals at the Canadian Henley, and in the spring, she led her boat to a bronze medal at Philadelphia City Championship and a silver medal at the Cooper Cup.
Artemis Hodoyan (coxn): Hodoyan has been coxing for ZLAC in San Diego for two years. She competed in her club's JV8 for the 2014-2015 season and has chosen LMU for it's catholic values and service opportunities.
Julia Pinamont: Pinamont was a three-sport varsity athlete at Unionville High School in West Chester, Pa. During her four years, she earned eight varsity letters in swimming, track and rowing. In her senior year, she served as co-captain for the rowing team and helped lead the V4 and 8 boats to strong finishes at the Head of the Christina, Schuylkill and at Bill Braxton.
Masury Lynch: Lynch was the top female runner and swimmer on her high school varsity swimming and cross-country teams, and is an avid prone paddle-boarder as well as outrigger paddler. One of her biggest accomplishments is having paddled the approximately 30 mile Newport to Catalina outrigger race with the Marina Outrigger team. Lynch chose LMU because she felt like the school was a place where she could meet lifelong friends, be challenged academically, and also have a great time.
