The #9 LMU sand volleyball team (2-7) dropped a closely-contested match to #8 UCLA (4-0) on Wednesday from the Bruins' Sunset Canyon Courts.

With the match knotted at 2-2, the decision came down to #5 pairs. There, Ivey Schmitt and Anastasia Kunz defeated Kristen Castellanos and Taylor Scioscia in a three-set match, 21-10, 16-21, 15-5.

Avery Bush and Anne Marie Taylor had a chance to put the match away for LMU, but lost in a back-and-forth three-set match to Laurel Weaver and Julie Consani, 24-22, 14-21, 16-14.

LMU's top-pair of Betsi Metter and Sarah Sponcil continued their strong play, defeating Kamilia Tan and Zoë Nightingale, 21-9, 21-17. The duo is now 14-3 overall, including 8-1 in team play, and 9-1 over the last 10 matches.

Playing at #4, Hannah Tedrow and Rachelle Suaava combined to hand Karly Drolson and Rachel Inouye their first loss of the season by scores of 15-21, 21-19, 15-9.

LMU will return to action today when it plays against #1 USC at 1:30 p.m. The match will air live on the Pac-12 Network.
