SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The 17th-ranked LMU women's water polo team won their fourth straight Golden Coast Conference match-up, defeating Santa Clara, 12-7, in Santa Clara, Calif, on Thursday afternoon.
The Lions improve to 19-10 overall and equal Pacific for a tied at second in the GCC at 4-1. The Tigers defeated California Baptist earlier on Friday, setting up a showdown for the No. 2 seed in the upcoming GCC Championships. LMU travels to Pacific on Saturday for a 12 noon match-up.
LMU earned the win thanks to four goals from senior Mackenzie Beck and two each from Laura Lopez, Erin Byrne, and Bridgette Alvarez.
The Lions jumped out to a 2-0 lead to start the game and led 4-1 by the end of the first quarter. Another four goal quarter put the score at 8-4 heading into halftime.
The Lions defense then held the Broncos to just one goal in the third quarter to take a 10-4 lead and to pull away for the win.
