The LMU sand volleyball team (3-9) split a pair of matches at USC's Merle Norman Stadium on Thursday, falling 4-1 to #1 USC before defeating San Francisco, 4-1.

Rachelle Suaava and Hannah Tedrow posted LMU's lone victory over top-ranked USC, defeating Nicolette Martin and Allie Wheeler by scores of 21-18, 16-21, 15-12.

LMU's top pair of Betsi Metter and Sarah Sponcil played Kelly Claes/Sara Hughes tough on the road, but eventually fell 21-16, 18-21, 15-8.

The Lions rebounded nicely against the Dons, winning four of the five courts, including victories on the top four courts. Three of the four victories came in straight sets, while the one loss was a three-set setback on the fifth court.

LMU will now compete at the USAV Invitational in Hermosa Beach, Calif. this weekend.
