Lions Take Down #61 Cal Poly

March 6, 2015

Box Score

The LMU men's tennis team (4-6) hit the road and defeated #61 Cal Poly (8-5) by a score of 4-3 on Friday afternoon in San Luis Obispo. The match was the first of two being played by the Lions this weekend.

LMU won the critical doubles point as Charles Boyce and Cristobal Rivera defeated Devin Barber and Garrett Auproux by a score of 7-6 (5) on court two. LMU split the other two courts, as Othar Kordsachia and Felix Van Kann posted a 6-3 victory on court three.

"The Lions showed up today from the start of doubles to the final point in singles," second-year head coach Tom Lloyd said. "It was an entire team effort of guts, grit and being tough on the opponents turf. Even the guys that came up short today kept pushing the guy next them and everyone pulled the rope today."

While Cal Poly took each of the first three singles matches, LMU cleaned up on the final three courts to earn the victory. Rivera collected the 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 victory on court four, while freshman Joat Farah defeated Lucas Lesoeur 7-5, 6-4 on court five. Kordsachia rounded out the singles winners with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Axel Damiens.

"Our coaching staff is very proud of how the guys competed today and never gave an inch," Lloyd continued. "A win is fantastic to have in the pocket, and we will enjoy it for the evening, but it is back to work tomorrow against a very tough and feisty Utah State team"

LMU will now play #71 Utah State in a neutral site match tomorrow at 1 p.m.
