The LMU men's tennis team (9-8, 1-4 WCC) won its fifth straight home match on Friday afternoon, beating BYU (9-12, 3-1 WCC) by a score of 4-3 to record its first conference victory of the season.

LMU is now 7-2 at home this year.

The Lions and Cougars split the first two doubles decisions on the top two courts, but Felix Van Kann and Othar Kordsachia defeated Jeremy Bourgeois and Robin Pfister, 6-4, on court three to take the doubles point. Charles Boyce and Cristobal Rivera also recorded a doubles victory on court two, topping Shane Monroe and Francis Sargeant, 6-2.

Rivera, who had a seven-match win streak snapped last weekend, got back on the winning track on Friday, recording a victory over Jacob Sullivan, 6-4, 6-2, on court four.

BYU's top player, Sargeant, got the Cougars on the board with a victory before Andrey Goryachkov defeated Van Kann in straight sets on court three to even the match score at 2-2.

Errol Smith responded with a hard-fought three-set victory over Monroe, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (2) on court two to once again put the Lions on top, but Aidan Carrazedo kept BYU alive with a court-six victory, 6-3, 7-6 (6) over Luke Bohuslav.

With all the attention turned to the deciding court five, Joat Farah and Bourgeois were busy battling to a third set. Farah won the opener, 6-4, but dropped the second set, 6-2. Farah, just a freshman, showed veteran ability under pressure, putting away his opponent, 6-4, to hand LMU the 4-3 victory.

With a WCC victory in hand, LMU will return to action next weekend when it travels to the Bay Area for WCC matches against Santa Clara and San Francisco.
