LOS ANGELES - Meghan von Behren blasted her second home run in as many days and Rachael Farrington tossed her 11th complete-game win of the season as the LMU softball team held on for a 5-2 win over Seattle Saturday at the LMU Muscle Milk Invitational.
The Lions (17-20) put one run on the board in the third, beginning with a Courtney Moore walk to open the inning. Her pinch runner Alice Cen advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by von Behren and scored on an Alex Finie double to left-center.
LMU broke the game open in the fourth as Stephanie Crist, Alicia Brown and Caitlin Harman started things off with three straight singles. Hannah Montalban would reach on a fielder's choice to keep the bases loaded for von Behren who would launch a grand slam over the left-center field fence, giving the Lions a 5-0 lead.
Seattle (10-19) got two runs back in the top off the fifth courtesy a Isabella Geronimo two-RBI single to right center.
The Redhawks threatened once more in the top of the seventh as Lisa Mauldin led off with a first-pitch, double to right center. With one out, Geronimo single to left-center, advancing pinch runner Erika Rodgers to third. But Farrington would close things out by drawing a fielder's choice out at second and a ground ball back to herself that she calmly tossed to first for the final out.
Farrington fanned six, walked one and scattered eight hits in the complete-game victory, her 12th win of the season.
