The LMU men's tennis team (8-6, 0-2 WCC) will take a six-match win streak on the road beginning Friday with a 10 a.m. match at Portland. The Lions will play the Pilots and Gonzaga in WCC play, with the match against the Bulldogs scheduled for Saturday at Noon.
LMU's six-match win streak includes three victories away from the LMU Tennis Center and three more at home. Included in the six are victories over ranked teams in Cal Poly, Utah State and Utah.
LMU most recently collected a pair of 4-1 victories at home on Tuesday of this week, topping #72 Utah and Army at the LMU Tennis Center. With two victories on Tuesday, Cristobal Rivera has now won six straight singles matches, while Joat Farah has collected five straight. Both players are 10-6 on the season, with Rivera sitting at 9-5 in dual matches.
Charles Boyce and Rivera are now 8-2 in doubles, while Farah and Errol Smith are 6-2. The latter pair is the reigning WCC Doubles Team of the Week, replacing Boyce and Rivera from last week.
Portland is 7-3 on the year and has dropped back-to-back matches. Most recently, the Pilots fell to Yale, 4-3, on March 15. Playing singles before doubles, Portland split the six singles matches, but dropped the decisive doubles point.
Gonzaga, which carries an 8-3 overall record, has won seven of the last eight matches, including most recently defeating Sacramento State, 4-3, on Sunday. Junior Hayden Smith was named West Coast Conference Singles Player of the Week on Tuesday after leading the Zags to a 3-1 record during spring break. The Breakfast Point, Australia, native also went 3-1 over the four matches during spring break, claiming individual wins in each of the Zags' three team wins.
After this weekend's trip, LMU will return home to host BYU on Friday, March 27 at 2 p.m.
