The LMU men's tennis team (2-4) suffered another heartbreaking 4-3 loss on Thursday afternoon at Fresno State (4-2). Three of LMU's four losses this year have come in 4-3 fashion. LMU used strength at the top of the singles lineup to make the match close, as each of LMU's top-three players recorded a victory.
Errol Smith won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, on court one to even the team score following Fresno State's victory in the doubles competition. The Bulldogs seemingly took control of the match over the next two decisions, as Youssef Hassan and Sai Kartik Nakireddi defeated Lion opponents to hand the home team a 3-1 advantage in the match.
Refusing to surrender, LMU won tough battles on courts two and three to even the match score and hinge the decision on court six singles. Cristobal Rivera, playing at #3 singles, defeated Eric Komati, 6-4, 7-6, before Charles Boyce bested Adam Glynn in a very competitive 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 match on second court.
Court six pitted LMU's Luke Bohuslav against Nikolas Papci of Fresno State. Papic took the opening set by a score of 7-5, but Bohuslav rumbled back with a hard-fought 7-6 decision in the second. With both teams needing the third set for victory, Papic topped Bohuslav 6-3 in the third to allow Fresno State to escape with the win.
LMU will look to rebound on Saturday at #48 Pepperdine. The match against the Waves will serve as part of the PCH Cup and will be contested at 3 p.m.
