TUCSON, Ariz. - After dropping their first three games of the Hillenbrand Invitational hosted by the University of Arizona, the LMU softball team closed out Saturday's play with a huge 12-1, six-inning win over Wright State.
The Lions (3-4) used a pair of big innings, including a four-run sixth, to put the Raiders away in just six innings.
Stephanie Crist went 3-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and four RBIs to lead the Lions at the plate. Stephanie Maciel had a pair of hits, including a home run, and three RBIs while freshman Rachel Williams batted in a pair of runs.
Williams gave LMU a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with an RBI single that scored Amanda Dirks. Then came a five-run third, highlighted by Crist's three-run shot to left center and Maciel's two-run blast to left.
Wright State got on the board in the fourth with a leadoff home run by Jess Gorman, but LMU would tack on two more runs in the fifth and four in the sixth.
Rachael Farrington (2-3) earned the complete-game win in the circle for LMU. The sophomore fanned three and scattered four hits for one run in six innings of work.
LMU closes out tournament play Sunday morning against San Jose State. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. loca, 10 a.m. Pacific.
