Nov. 7, 2015 LOS ANGELES - With "KT1" scribed on each players' shoulder, the 14th-ranked LMU water polo team entered their showdown with No. 10 UC Davis with a little more on their mind than the top seed for the upcoming Western Water Polo Association Championships.
The LMU water polo program and LMU family lost one of its own this week. Kyle Testman, a 2013 graduate and a two-time All-WWPA goalie for the Lions, passed away on Thursday. His younger brother Tyler Testman is a junior on this year's squad. After missing the game on Friday against San Jose State, he was on the bench during the Lion's game with the Aggies. The entire Testman family was in attendance on Saturday.
Information on arrangements for Kyle are forthcoming.
As for the game, the Aggies took hold of the number one seed in the upcoming tournament thanks to a fast start, going up 5-1 early and then leading by as many as six goals, 10-4, to start the second half.
LMU (11-11, 4-2) sees their program record eight-game win streak end as they will be the number two seed at the tournament, which will be played Nov. 20-22 at Air Force. The Aggies (17-7, 6-0) earn the one seed.
Emanuel Di Stasio led the Lions with five goals. Ido Goldschmidt and Cory Laidig had three for UC Davis. Spencer Creed made 11 saves in goal for the Aggies.
