GCC Championships Begin at Burns Center

LOS ANGELES -The first-ever season for the Golden Coast Conference will come to a close this coming Thursday - Saturday with the inaugural GCC Championships, and LMU will be the center of the action as the Lions host at the Burns Aquatics Center April 24-26.

LMU Sports Network talked with Head Coach Kyle Witt about hosting the first championship in the new league, got his thoughts on entering as the No. 2 seed and what it will take to make a run at the title.

The 15th-ranked Lions (19-12, 5-1) will open with No. 7 seed Fresno Pacific (8-21, 0-6) on Thursday at 1:30 pm. The Lions defeated the Sunbirds in Fresno on March 8, 12-3.

It is the second game of the opening day as No. 3 seed Santa Clara will open the tournament against No. 6 Azusa Pacific at 12 noon. The third game of the day will feature No. 4 California Baptist and No. 5 Pacific at 3 pm.

The semifinals will feature the winner of Game No. 3 against top-seed San Diego State, who earned a bye as the regular season champions. That will be the second semifinal at 2:30 pm. The first semifinal will feature the winners of games one and two, and will be at 1 pm. The title game will be on Saturday at 2:30 pm.
