RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Sydney Gouveia recorded her second 10-strikeout shutout in three days and the LMU softball team closed out play at the Amy S. Harrison Classic with a 1-0 win over Cal State Bakersfield Sunday morning.
The win capped a 4-1 weekend for the Lions, who move to 4-6 on the season.
Gouveia improved to 4-1 in the pitching circle with her fourth straight victory. Along with her 10 strikeouts, she walked three and surrendered just one hit - a two-out single in the fifth.
The Lion battery totaled four hits, including two in the scoring inning. With one out, Meghan Harman singled up the middle, danced to third on a Stephanie Crist single through the right side and would score two batters later on a sacrifice fly to left by Amanda Dirks.
Harman and Crist each finished 2-for-2 on the day, accounting for all four LMU hits.
The Lions return to action on Feb. 28-Mar. 3 at the USF Under Armour Invitational in Clearwater, Fla.
