Nov. 24, 2014 LMU rowing head coach Dr. Vaclav Kacir announced last week the signing of two standout student-athletes for next season. Alex Bauer (Saratoga HS) and Danielle Rosh (Saint Francis HS) are both committed to rowing for the Lions beginning in the fall of 2015.
"I'm excited to bring both of these young women on to the team next year," Kacir said. "Alex's work ethic and dedication paired with Danielle's positive attitude and leadership makes them both big assets to the team."
Bauer has been rowing with the Los Gatos Rowing Club since 2010. In the summer of 2012, she went to the Canadian Henley, rowing with Oakland Strokes in the U-17 Women's eight event where she helped the boat to a second-place finish. In the summer of 2013, Bauer attended the U.S. Rowing Sculling Development Camp in Seattle, Wash. She also went to the Youth Nationals in 2013 at Oakridge, Tenn., rowing in the V8, and in 2014 stroking the Varsity Quad, after getting second at Southwest Regionals. Bauer, who was voted the Varsity Women's Team Captain for the 2014-2015 rowing year, chose to commit to LMU for a number of reasons including the religious aspect and small classroom sizes.
Rosh has rowed for the Los Gatos Rowing Club for three years, serving as a coxswain. As a senior, she helped lead her team to the Head of Charles in the Varsity women's 8. An all-around athlete, she also participates in cross country and swimming, and has a black belt in mixed martial arts. Like her Los Gatos Rowing Club teammate Bauer, Rosh also considered a number of other schools, but chose to attend LMU because of the school's Jesuit beliefs, educational reputation, ethical presence, the school's rowing team, and the beautiful location.
The LMU rowing team will return to action on January 31, 2015 at the Long Beach Sprints.
