LOS ANGELES -- In another tight contest between rivals LMU and UC San Diego - the longest running men's water polo match-up for the Lions - the Tritons used another strong second half to claim a 9-7 win at the Burns Aquatics Center on Saturday afternoon.
Just like their first meeting on Oct. 1, the Lions held an early lead only to see UCSD play stingy defense in the second half to claim the win. In the first meeting LMU led 2-1 going into the fourth quarter but managed only one goal in the entire second half as the Tritons won 7-2.
On Saturday, the Lions led 5-2 after the first period and then Vuk Cvetkovic scored his second goal of the game with 7:38 left in the third quarter to give LMU a 7-5 lead.
UC San Diego wouldn't allow another goal over the next 15 minutes and scored four unanswered to claim the win in a non-conference match-up between the two Western Water Polo Association rivals.
Cameron Ravanbach had 11 saves for UCSD while freshman Dominick Beaudine had seven for LMU. Josh Stiling led all scorers with three goals.
The Lions head north for a pair of WWPA match-ups when they face Santa Clara on Oct. 31 at 4 pm and then UC Davis on Nov. 2 at 11 am.
