LOS ANGELES - Seeking a season sweep of their Wells Fargo PCH Cup rival for the second straight year, the LMU women's basketball team hosts Pepperdine Saturday, Feb. 1 at 2 p.m. in Gersten Pavilion.

CURRENT CUP STANDINGS
Saturday's women's basketball match-up between the Lions and Waves is the eighth Cup battle of the 2013-14 season. In this fifth year of the battle between the two schools for the Wells Fargo PCH Cup, the Lions enter this meeting with a 6.5-2.5 point lead. Points throughout the year are awarded as follows: 1 point for a home victory, 1.5 points for a road victory, 1 point for a neutral site victory, .5 point for a tie.
FINDING THEIR STRIDE
Over the first 15 games of the season, the Lions averaged 66.3 points while shooting 36.6 percent from the field, 28 percent from three in 69 percent from the charity stripe. The tide has turned in the past five games as the Lions have hit a collective 48 percent from the field, 41 percent from three and 81 percent from the free-throw line. Four Lions have averaged double figures during the stretch including Deanna Johnson (19.0 ppg), Hazel Ramirez (16.4 ppg), Leslie Lopez-Wood (14.6 ppg) and Sophie Taylor (13.2 ppg). Ramirez has also dished 7.6 apg and gone 33-for-38 (86.8 percent) from the free-throw line, including a streak of 23 straight. Lopez-Wood has hit 18-of-42 (42.9 percent) from deep and Johnson's numbers are also impressive as she has totaled 76 points in just 87 total minutes of action (for good measure, Ramirez has played 163 minutes in this five-game span). The numbers have produced results as the Lions have won three of their last five games, including a pair on the road.
DISHING DIMES
With her 11 helpers on Jan. 25 versus Portland, Hazel Ramirez surpassed the century mark for assists for the second straight season. The senior point guard now has 110 total assists, good for a WCC leading average of 5.5 per game.
Her 110 assists this season brings Ramirez's career total to 396, good for third place in LMU's all-time record book. Next in line is Kristen Bruich (1988-91) with 429.
FRESHMAN ON FIRE
Leslie Lopez-Wood has hit four three's in each of the last four games and is shooting nearly 39 percent from deep for the season. The rookie, who has a single-game high of six - one shy of the LMU record - now has 46 three's on the year, good for the all-time LMU freshman record. She enter's Saturday's game versus Pepperdine ranked ninth in the LMU single-season record book. Next on the list, in a tie for seventh, are Kate Murray (2003-04) and Meghan Kenny (1997-98) who each hit 48 threes in a single-season. The all-time LMU record is 67, set in back-to-back seasons by Amanda Patton.
SPREAD THE WEALTH
Five players scored in double-figures versus Portland on Jan. 25, marking the third time this season that a quintet of players have achieved the feat in a game. Prior to this season, the last time LMU had five players reach double figures in a game was Jan. 21, 2010 versus Portland.
The Lions have also had four players in double-figures five times this season, including Jan. 23 versus Gonzaga.
Six different players have led the scoring column in a game, including Ramirez (8), Deanna Johnson (7), Sophie Taylor (2), Emily Ben-Jumbo (1), Chelsea Barnes (1) and Leslie Lopez-Wood (1).
ABOUT THE PEPPERDINE WAVES
Pepperdine is riding a six-game losing streak dating back to Jan. 4 versus San Francisco. The Waves enter the week at 5-15 overall and 1-8 in WCC play. Their lone league win was a 100-93 double overtime victory over Santa Clara on Jan. 2. Bria Richardson leads the Waves in scoring at 16.9 ppg, but has been sidelined the past three games due to injury. Keitra Wallace averages 12.5 ppg, Allie Green contributes 12.2 ppg and Ea Shoushtari chips in 10.9 ppg. Pepperdine averages 65.6 ppg, 7.9 less than they allow. They hit 40 percent from the field, 34 percent from three and 70 percent from the free-throw line.
