LOS ANGELES -- The LMU women's water polo team opened the 2014 season with a pair of wins at the UCLA Bruin Invitational on Saturday, scoring a combined 38 goals on the day.
The Lions opened the season with 1 16-4 win over CSU Bakersfield and then ended the day with a 22-8 win over Concordia. Nine different Lions scored in the opener and then 10 in the win over Concordia.
Ivana Castro, Danielle Johnson and Mackenzie Beck had three goals each in the opener. In the second game, Laura Lopez had four goals while Alexandra Honny had three.
Day two of the Bruin Invitational will have the Lions taking on a pair of top-10 teams, starting with eighth-ranked San Jose State at 11:15 am, followed by the host and third-ranked Bruins at 3:45 pm.
