Final Stats

LOS ANGELES - Todd Volmari, Cristobal Rivera and Felix Van Kann all picked up singles win Friday against non-conference foe UC Davis, but in a match that went down to the wire, it was not quite enough as the LMU men's tennis team fell 4-3 to the visiting Aggies.

The Lions drop to 4-18 on the season while UC Davis improved to 7-11 overall. LMU wraps up the regular-season on Saturday, hosting West Coast Conference rival BYU at noon.

UC Davis claimed an early one-point advantage by winning two of the three doubles matches. LMU's pair of Daniel Simko and Jack Zapala defeated George Horowitz and Brett Bacharach, 8-3. But the Lions other two pairs both fell 8-4.

In singles play, the Aggies took a 3-0 advantage as Hugo Verdi-Fortin defeated Simko, 6-3, 6-4, and Horowitz defeated Nick Northcott, 6-4, 6-2.

Rivera put the Lions on the board by earning a straight-sets victory over Parker Kelly, 6-4, 6-1. Shortly thereafter, Van Kann concluded his straight-sets win on court four, 7-6, 6-3, over Bacharach.

On court one, Volmari powered his way to a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 win over Toki Sherbakov, knotting the team score at three points apiece and placing all focus on court two's match-up between Sebastian Bustamante and UCD's Kyle Miller.

Bustamante won the first set, 6-1, and Miller won the second, 6-3. Tied 6-6 in the final set, and then 6-6 in the tie break, it would be Miller who finally pulled away, earning the final two straight points for the individual and team win.
