CLEARWATER, Fla. - The LMU softball team went 1-1 on day two of the USF Under Armour Invitational Saturday, dropping a 4-3 decision to No. 17/19 Kentucky then coming from behind to clinch a 5-4 victory over Quinnipiac.

In the nightcap game against the Bobcats, the Lions (6-8) used a three-run sixth to battle back from a 3-2 deficit and then halted a seventh-inning rally to hold on for the one-run win.

Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Stephanie Crist led off with a walk, then was replaced by pinch runner Lauren Thompson. Sterling Shuster smacked an RBI double and Hannah Montalban followed with another double that sent Shuster home, giving the Lions a 4-3 advantage. Breeanna Sandovol aded the final run of the inning, singling home Montalban.

Quinnipiac rallied in the seventh, scoring a two-out unearned run. But LMU pitcher Molly Medeiros got a fly out for the final inning of the game. The senior hurler did not record a strikeout, but was effective in scattering six hits for four earned runs.

Shuster led the Lions with two hits while four others had one hit apiece.

In their Saturday opener, the Lions started strong, building a 3-0 lead in the top of the first.

With one out, Skylar Segura singled up the middle and Meghan Harman and Crist drew back-to-back full count walks to load the bases. Two batters later Shuster came up with a big two-RBI single to right, sending Segura and Harman home. Stephanie Maciel followed with a walk and Nicole Clowdus followed with a single up the middle to score Shuster from second base.

That would be the end of the LMU scoring, however, as they managed just two hits over the final six innings of play. Kentucky, meanwhile, took advantage of five Lion fielding errors to score two runs in the home half of the first, one in the third and the go-ahead in the sixth.

Despite not allowing an earned run, Dana Waldusky (2-6) took the complete-game loss for LMU. The senior struck out one, walked one and allowed just three hits in the game.

The Lions conclude tournament play Sunday against Central Connecticut. First pitch is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. PT.
