LOS ANGELES - The non-conference portion of LMU's 2013-14 season concludes on Thursday, Dec. 19 as the Lions wrap up a three-game home stand by hosting Seattle University at 7 p.m. in Gersten Pavilion.

LIONS LAST LINE
Coming off of a seven-day break from action and fall semester finals week, the Lions shook off some rust to hold on for a 71-67 victory over UNLV Saturday. The win moved the Lions to 3-7 overall and gave them their first win streak of the season. Deanna Johnson led all scorers with 23 points, one shy of her career high, as four Lions reached double-figures. Hazel Ramirez had 14 points and eight assist while Sophie Taylor and Leslie Lopez-Wood came off the bench to add 12 and 11 points, respectively. Holding a slim three-point lead at the half, the Lions would open up a 54-44 advantage on back-to-back buckets by Ramirez with eight minutes to play. Johnson's three with 3:24 remaining pushed the spread to a second-half high of 11, 63-52. The Lions continued to hold off Rebel runs down the stretch and, despite seeing a late 10-point lead dwindle to four, key buckets, free throws and defensive stops allowed them to maintain the advantage. LMU finished with 23 offensive boards for 19 second-chance points. They also forced 17 Rebel giveaways for 22 points off turnovers while committing a season-low nine turnovers themselves. Hazel Ramirez has scored in double-figures in eight of LMU's 10 games this season, leading the team with 13.3 ppg. The senior point guard tallied her first 20-plus point game of the year with a 22-point effort at Long Beach State on Nov. 23. That was just three shy of her career high of 25 set last season at San Diego. Five different players have led the scoring column in a game, including Ramirez, Emily Ben-Jumbo, Deanna Johnson, Chelsea Barnes and Sophie Taylor. Barnes' team-high 16 points versus Oregon State on Nov. 21 also matched her career high, set at Wyoming on Dec. 29, 2012. Taylor also achieved a career-high with 16 points, all in the second half, against UC Irvine on Nov. 29. Johnson's 23-point effort on Saturday versus UNLV was one shy of her career high set on Feb. 28, 2013 vs. BYU. Taylor Anderson and Mackenzie Kerins have each achieved double-double status. Anderson's 10-point, 10-rebound effort at Utah State was a career first for the junior. Kerins has two double-doubles on the year, including a 10-point, 11-rebound effort Thursday at Colorado State, bringing her career double-double total to eight. With 52 assists through 10 games, Ramirez brings her career total to 338, moving her into fifth place in LMU's all-time record book. Next in line is Amanda DeCloud (2005-08) with 349.
GETTING HOT FROM THREE
Leslie Lopez-Wood is starting to catch fire from beyond the arc. After hitting just 4-for-19 (21 percent) from three in the Lions' first four games, the freshman, who once hit 10 threes in a game during her final prep season, has gone 15-for-34 (44 percent) from long range in the last six games. She nailed 4-of-7 triples for a career-high 12 points at Long Beach State on Nov. 23, then matched that effort on Dec. 5 at Colorado State with another 4-for-7 performance. She tacked on a well-rounded 11-point, five-assist, five rebound effort on Dec. 14 versus UNLV. Lopez-Wood now leads the team with 19 threes on the season.
ABOUT THE SEATTLE REDHAWKS
Seattle enters the week at 4-6 overall, 3-3 on its home court and 1-3 on the road. The Redhawks have picked up wins over Portland State, Coastal Carolina, Cornell and, most recently, Montana State. They also dropped a 105-100 shootout against Oregon on Dec. 4. Hitting at a 43 percent clip from the field and nearly 32-percent from three, Seattle has four players averaging double figures. Leading the way is Kacie Sowell with 14.9 ppg to go along with a team high 9.7 rpg. Sylvia Shephard averages 12.2 ppg, Ashley Ward chips in an even 12 ppg and Taelor Ross averages 11.2 ppg.
