LOS ANGELES - The second match of a doubleheader can often be trouble, but LMU stepped up its performance with a 6-1 victory over Montana State (3-7). The Lions showed little fatigue as they faced their second opponent of the day, winning both matches handily.
LMU (6-5) won the doubles competition in a sweep. The round saw a win by WCC Player of the Month of February Nicholas Bjerke and Sebastian Bustamante over Alberto Fuentes and Lander Jewett 8-2 in No. 1 doubles. On court two, Todd Volmari and Daniel Simko gained a win over Niklas Brandes and Markus Schleuter 8-2. Felix Van Kann and Robin Kiyabu wrapped up the doubles shutout with a tightly contested 8-7 victory over Javier Marillas and Prithiv Sivasubraman.
Sebastian Bustamante started the singles round with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Alberto Fuentes in No. 2 singles for his second singles win on the day. Freshman Todd Volmari defeated Markus Schleuter 6-2, 6-2 on court three. Fellow freshman Felix Van Kann followed up with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Diego Contreras wrapping up the match for LMU.
Alex Wilton got his second No. 1 singles win of the day defeating Niklas Brandes 6-2, 6-2. Javier Marillas won the Bobcats only point for the day beating Tom Price, 6-2, 6-3. In the final singles competition, Nick Northcott defeated Lander Jewett 7-6, 6-0, giving the Lions straight set victories in all singles wins.
LMU will be in action Wednesday, Mar. 14 at 1:30 p.m. as they host Hawai'I at the LMU Tennis Center.
