LOS ANGELES -- The West Coast Conference announced its 2012 Men's and Women's All-Academic honors on Thursday. LMU juniors Kevin Joerger was named to the WCC All-Academic Men's Team while Michelle Hickerson was named to the WCC All-Academic Women's Team. Fellow Lions Sheree Shea, Michael Carlone, Drew Dalton, Greg Innes, Dan Smith and Weston Strum received Honorable Mention to the All-Academic teams.

Joerger is a biochemistry major with a 3.92 grade point average. The Thousand Oaks native had the fastest time for the Lions at the Triton Invite in October, finishing third in the race individually and leading the Lions to a second-place result.

Hickerson is studying studio arts and has a 3.88 GPA. The junior finished 15th overall at the Mustang Challenge in September, second-best on the team, which finished third at the meet.

At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered in the sport of men's cross country, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, be a significant contributor to his team and participate in at least 50 percent of all contests, and have at least sophomore athletic and academic standing with at least one year in residence at the nominating institution.

The Lions will compete Saturday in the WCC Championships in Portland, Ore. The meet begins at 9:00 a.m. Click here for a preview and more information.
