SAN MARCOS, Texas - LMU freshman Brianne Medved didn't waste any time with her opportunity, coming into the game against Texas State a little more than 20 minutes in, and then at 28:37 netted her first collegiate goal to lift the Lions to a 1-0 win over the Bobcats on Sunday night in San Marcos, Texas.

With the win, the Lions earned a sweep of their two-game trip to Texas, defeating No. 19 Texas, 3-1, on Friday.

"This is a good start for us," said Head Coach Joe Mallia. "We took care of business. We didn't play as well as we would have liked in the first half, but in the second half we probably played our best soccer of the trip."

Despite the slow first half, Medved made the difference. She took a pass from sophomore Darien Pyka and scored from the top of the box into the top right corner.

"She came in and made a difference," said Mallia. "She took on an outside back and hit a great ball. It was a great finish and she went on to play really well in the second half."

Despite an injury against the Longhorns, Texas-native Brittany Jagger made the start in goal and earned the shutout, making two saves, both in the second half.

"The second half really was our best soccer of the trip. We really started to stretch out the other team and really change our point of attack well," said Mallia. "They also focused a little more.

"We defended as a group well in the second half and checked the ball a lot. We stayed organized well while we had the ball on the offensive attack in their zone."

The Lions will now return home for a four-game homestand, starting on Friday, Aug. 26, against Long Island at 4 p.m.
