2010-11 Postgraduate Scholarship Men's Fall Sports Awardees
LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Tibor Forai, a four-time All-American for the LMU men's water polo program, has added another award to his long list of accomplishments while helping the Lions to four straight conference championships. Forai was named a recipient of a 2010-11 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
Of the 29 scholarship beneficiaries honored nationwide to those participating in fall sports, Forai was one of two Western Water Polo Association student-athletes selected for the honor. The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Committee has awarded a $7,500 scholarship to Nixon for part-time or full-time postgraduate study at a university or professional school.
Forai's list of accomplishments has grown quite lengthy in his four years as a Lion, both in the classroom and in the pool.
As mentioned, he, along with teammate Andy Stevens, became the first student-athletes in LMU history to earn All-America honors all four seasons of competition. During that time, he was part of a senior class that saw the Lions win four consecutive WWPA titles and earn four straight trips to the NCAA championships.
Forai was also a four-time All-WWPA selection, a three-time NCAA All-Tournament team selection, a three-time WWPA All-Tournament selection including MVP in 2007, and was named LMU Freshman of the Year in 2007. His finishes his career ranked fourth all-time with 193 goals, eighth with 79 career assists and 10th with 100 career steals.
His list of accomplishments outside the pool is just as long. He was named second-team ACWPA National All-Academic for the third straight year in 2010, has been an WWPA All-Academic selection four straight seasons, was the 2009-10 LMU Student-Athlete of the Year, and was a second-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 8 selection in the men's at-large category in 2009-10.
Similar awards were given to winter and spring student-athletes, totaling 174 individual winners.
To qualify, student-athletes must excel academically and athletically, be in their final year of eligibility and plan to pursue graduate study. Student-athletes must also maintain at least a 3.2 grade-point average and be nominated by their institution's faculty athletics representative.
Created in 1964, NCAA postgraduate scholarships promote and encourage education by rewarding the Association's most accomplished student-athletes. Additional information is available on the NCAA Website.
