LOS ANGELES - LMU senior second baseman Amy Charpentier and sophomore pitcher Dana Waldusky swept the Pacific Coast Softball Conference Coastal Division weekly honors for Feb. 14-20 as Charpentier earned the Player of the Week award and Waldusky was named Pitcher of the Week. It is the first career honor for both, who helped LMU to a 4-1 record at the aTen Construction Tournament in Riverside last weekend.
Charpentier (Bakersfield, Calif.) led LMU a .500 batting average (7-for-14) and hits in four of the five contests. She opened the weekend by going 2-for-4 with her double and run scored in the fifth proving to be the winning run against Rutgers on Friday. After singling in her only at-bat in Saturday's game one against Minnesota, Charpentier helped the Lions overcome a 5-0 deficit in game two, walking and scoring the tying run in a 6-5 win. On Sunday, she went a perfect 3-for-3, including a 2-run single that put LMU ahead 4-1, and a run-scoring single that helped the Lions pull away after Rutgers had tied the game at 4-all. She capped the weekend with a single in the win over UCR. On the season, Charpentier is hitting .364.
Waldusky picked up her first two victories as a member of LMU last weekend, finishing the aTen Construction Tournament with a 2-0 record and 2.33 earned run average in four appearances. On Friday, Waldusky came on in relief in the first inning and the Lions trailing 2-0 and gained the win with 6 1/3 innings of two-hit, no-walk ball in the 9-4 win. After appearing as a reliever against Minnesota on Saturday, Waldusky started both games on Sunday. She earned a no-decision in the game one win over Rutgers but bounced back with a complete-game, two-hit shutout of UC Riverside. Waldusky allowed just two singles and one runner to reach third in setting an LMU season-high with seven strikeouts. Waldusky is 2-2 with a 2.48 ERA on the year.
LMU (5-4) returns to the Inland Empire this weekend for five games at the Cathedral City Classic, including three against top-25 opponents. The Lions will face #8 Tennessee at 8 p.m. on Friday, then go up against #11 Texas at 1 p.m. and Indiana at 8 p.m. on Saturday. The weekend concludes Sunday with back-to-back contests against top-ranked Arizona and UC Santa Barbara, beginning at 1 p.m.
