Pair of Ranked Home Games

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The loaded schedule this 2011 season for the 10th-ranked LMU men's water polo team will continue this week as the Lions host another pair of ranked opponents at the Burns Recreation Center. The Lions will open with No. 18 Cal Baptist on Thursday at 3 p.m., followed by a key conference showdown with No. 12 UC Davis on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Cal Baptist will come to LMU for the first time in program history and they will enter with a 20-6 record on the season. The Lancers have been ranked throughout the season and are coming off a tough 11-10 setbabck to No. 15 Santa Clara last Sunday. The Lions lead the series 3-1 with all four previous match-ups taking place in neutral pool.

Then Saturday will be another key battle in the Western Water Polo Association as the two teams battle for key postseason seedings. The Aggies are 20-7 on the season and 11-2 in the WWPA, falling to UC San Diego and Santa Clara. UC Davis will take on No. 11 UC San Diego on Friday night before heading to LMU.

The Aggies bring with them the top scorer in the WWPA in senior Aaron Salit, who leads the league with 57 goals. They also have one of the best stoppers in the league in goalie Kevin Peat, who leads the league in both saves (217) and steals (32).

LMU leads the series 23-11, winning their last meeting on Nov. 21, 2010, 9-6. It was the championship game of the 2010 WWPA Championships, the second time in four years the two met for the title.

The Lions enter the game at 11-6 overall and atop the WWPA standings at 8-1. The Lions are led by senior Edgaras Asajavicius, who has been on fire the last couple weeks, scoring eight goals in the last two games. He now has 38 goals on the season, adding 24 assists and 30 steals. He leads the Lions in all three categories and now ranks sixth all-time at LMU with 187 goals. He is ranked fifth in the WWPA in scoring, ninth in assists and second in steals.

Freshman Joe Ferretti has been having a solid start to his first college season, ranking 16th in the WWPA in goals with 26, scoring three times against UCSD.

CENTENNIAL SEASON: LMU is celebrating its Centennial in 2011-12 and athletics will honor the anniversary all season long. LMUat100 will feature a Centennial Game for each of the varsity programs, which included more than 900 fans at the Sept. 10 game against Pepperdine in the Wells Fargo PCH Cup.
