Results

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - This past weekend, the LMU men's tennis team dropped a close match to the UCSB Gauchos 4-3. Top duo Ivan Lopez and Otto Sauer led the Lions with a win in doubles play however the Lions were not to clinch the doubles decision after dropping matches on court two and three. In singles play Lopez, Sauer, and Maggi earned victories for the Lions on the day.

The doubles point was a close fight. Ivan Lopez and Otto Sauer took the No. 1 Doubles match by a score of 8-2 over UCSB's Konigsfeldt and Goggin. Lopez and Sauer are now 12-7 overall this season in doubles play and have won two of their last three matches. On court two and three the Lions fell to the Gauchos and the doubles point went to UCSB. In a close match on court two, Sudow and Recknagel topped LMU's Borja Malet and Renzo Maggi 9-7 while on court three, Hohenstein and Jurgensen defeated Jack Zapala and Nick Von Der Ahe 8-1.

The remainder of the match was an even competition. After earning the Lion's only doubles victory, both Ivan Lopez and Otto Sauer earned singles victories over UCSB. Lopez defeated Benjamin Recknagel 2-6, 6-1, 7-5 to increase his overall winning record to 12-7. Otto Sauer also got a win over UCSB's Lucas Sudow 6-7, 6-4, 7-5 to give him a 7-11 overall record. Senior Renzo Maggi gave the Lions their third and final point on the day over Taylor Chavez Goggin 6-3, 6-0. In other singles play, in a decisive battle, Johan Berhof dropped the final set to Hohenstein of UCSB 6-2 to give the Gauchos the win. On court three Bazula fell 6-2, 6-3 to Konigsfeldt while on court five, Forget defeated Borja Malet 6-3, 6-3.

Next up the Lions will play UC Irvine this Wednesday April 14th for their last regular season match before the WCC tournament starting on April 23rd in San Diego, California.
