The 7th-ranked LMU women's water polo team will make their home debut to the 2010 season when they host Western Water Polo Association foe UC San Diego on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 12 noon. The Lions will kick-off a full day's worth of activities within LMU Athletics for Parents' Weekend. Following women's water polo will be baseball in their home opener at 1 p.m., followed the LMU Pregame Tailgate Party at Hannon Field at 5 p.m. and then LMU men's basketball taking on Portland in their final home game of the season at 7 p.m.
INSIDE THE LIONS
LMU open the season scoring 57 goals, the most in program history through four games, to start the season 4-0. The previous high was 41 set in 2005, the same year they set the program for goals in a season with 379. The Lions won the Triton Invitational title for the fifth time, playing in the tournament every year since 2002 and winning it in 2002, 2005, 2006 and 2007. The Lions are 4-1 on the season after falling to second-ranked USC on Feb. 13. In the game they were without All-American Anne Scott, who was swimming in the PCSC championships for the Lions. She went on to win PCSC Swimmer of the Year. Sophomore Kimberly Benedetti leads the team with 11 goals, followed by freshman Erin Manke with 10. Scott is third on the team with nine. Christine Kato, a transfer from USC< has="" made="" 51="" saves="" in="" five="" games="" in="" her="" first="" year="" with="" the="" lions.="">
UP NEXT
LMU will play their first home game of the season against UC San DIego. The Tritons are 2-8 on the season with six of the eight setbacks coming to teams ranked in the top-20. This will be the 31st meeting between the two rivals. LMU holds a 20-10 edge in the series, winning three straight, including both meetings last season.
