SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The eighth-ranked LMU men's water polo team earned a 13-6 win over Redlands on Friday afternoon at Santa Clara's Sullivan Aquatics Center in the quarterfinals of the 2010 Western Water Polo Association Men's Championship to advance to their 12th straight semifinals.

The top seed Lions (17-8) got three goals each from senior Derek Milligan and junior Edgaras Asajavicius and scored six fourth quarter goals to pull away from the eighth-seeded Redlands (19-15).

The Lions clung to a one-goal lead after the first period, but their defense posted a shutout in the second quarter while the offense scored three to take a 6-2 lead at the break.

Redlands, who defeated Whittier earlier in the day to advance to face the Lions, trimmed the lead by one in the third quarter, making it 7-4 heading into the final frame.

The Lions then exploded for six goals to pull away.

They will now face host Santa Clara in the second semifinal at 1 p.m. The fourth-seeded and 14th-ranked Broncos defeated the No. 5 seed Claremont 13-4.
