LMU finished the dual meet season on a high note Saturday, defeating Cal State Northridge by a count of 181-80. The Lions won 10 of the 15 events, including both the 200 yard medley and 200 yard freestyle relays to open and close the competition, respectively.
Alicia Witter, Camille Hopp, Trinity O'Neill and Anne Scott combined to win the 200 medley relay, posting a time of 1:50.54. The LMU "B" relay finished third overall in 1:55.75.
Terry Rinder and Kia Dobie went 1-2 in the 500 freestyle, as Rinder took the top-spot with a time of 5:18.49, followed by Dobie at 5:20.74.
Scott claimed the 150 freestyle crown with a mark of 1:23.55, defeating her nearest competition by nearly two seconds. Isabella Zhang placed third overall in that race, notching a time of 1:27.97 to earn three points for the Lions. Jill Dahle was the final Lion to place in the 150, touching the wall in 1:29.88.
Tammy Choy won the 50 backstroke race in a time of 29.39, followed by Noelani Vargas in second at 29.44. Dempsey Haynosch was literally a split-second behind Vargas, touching in 29.45, good for third place.
Hopp returned to the water for the 50 breaststroke, winning that event with a mark of 31.14. Freshman Stephanie Hess won third at 33.28 before Pasque claimed one point for a fifth-place finish in 34.78.
After Mallorie Lim took second in the 100 butterfly at 1:01.21, Zhang claimed victory in the 50 freestyle. As they have done consistently over the past few years, LMU dominated the spring freestyle race, winning four of the top-five spots. Witter (25.73) placed second, while Vargas (26.18) and Alexa Cook (26.24) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Pasque claimed victory in the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.08 and Hopp won the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.11 to contribute valuable points for the Lions. Melanie Tansuwan and Choy also placed well in the 100 breaststroke, finishing second and third overall.
Witter swam to a first-place finish in the 300 freestyle, touching the wall in 3:07.55. Rinder, LMU's only other competitor in the race, placed second in 3:11.09. The Lions finished in each of the spots from second to fifth in the 50 butterfly, with O'Neill leading the way in second at 28.29. Mallorie Lim (28.30), Tansuwan (28.38) and Zhang (28.67) finished third through fifth.
Choy's time of 1:03.31 placed second overall in the 100 individual medley before the team of Cook, Pasque, Zhang and Witter combined to post a 1:40.29 in the 200 freestyle relay to close competition.
The Lions will return to action on February 10 as they compete in the 2010 Pacific Collegiate Swimming Conference Championships being held in Long Beach Calif. LMU finished second last year, and will look to claim its second title in the last three years.
