Final Stats

San Diego, Calif - Loyola Marymount Men's Tennis (5-18) played their first match of the WCC Championships this afternoon. The No. 7 Lions took on No. 2 San Diego in the first round at Barnes Tennis Center in Point Loma. LMU fell behind early and lost the match 4-1.

It started with the doubles round. LMU lost the point 2-0. Renzo Maggi and Borja Malet lost the No. 1 match (8-4) while Ivan Lopez and Nick Von Der Ahe dropped the No. 3 position 8-3.

The Lions suffered the same fate in singles. San Diego won three of the four matches that finished. Lopez lost the No. 1 position (6-1, 6-4), Johan Berhof dropped the No. 4 match (6-2, 6-4), and Geza Bazula lost the No. 6 spot 7-5, 6-4. Junior Renzo Maggi won LMU's only point. Maggie defeated USD's Tom Wolff (7-5, 6-4) for his first victory since returning to the singles line-up.

LMU will now advance to the consolation bracket of the tournament. The Lions will now face the loser of the No. 3 Portland/No. 6 Gonzaga match. The match is set for 8:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.
