PRINCETON, NJ -- The emotional hangover of LMU's heartbreaking overtime setback in the semifinals of the 2009 National Collegiate Men's Water Polo Championship to UCLA on Saturday overlapped into the Lions consolation match-up with tournament host Princeton. The Tigers jumped out to a quick start and managed to hold on to defeat the Lions in the final game of the season, 6-5, Sunday.
LMU still turned heads as they had three players earn All-Tournament team honors, including a pair of first-team honors. Junior Andy Stevens was honored as the tournament's top goalie as he and junior Tibor Forai were named to the seven-member All-Tournament first-team. Sophomore Edgaras Asajavicius was named to the second-team.
Stevens had 23 saves in the two games held at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool, including 12 against the Tigers. It wasn't enough as the Lions offense failed to score in the first and they could not recover to finish 19-10 on the season.
