LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Before LMU's game against Seattle, Lions' Head Coach Max Good greeted the referees and stated, "I hope you brought your running shoes." The Lions backed up their coach, running to a 104-89 win over Seattle University at Gersten Pavilion on Wednesday night. It was the first time since Jan. 29, 1998 the Lions broke the century mark.

Six players scored in double figures to lift the Lions' to their fifth consecutive win, improving them to 8-7 on the season. It is the longest win streak since starting the 2003-04 season 5-0. Seattle falls to 6-8.

"We wanted to match what they did well and that was to play up-tempo," said Good. "They like to press and push the ball, and we felt that if we could play better than them in that aspect of the game, we would be alright. We really did a good job of keeping the pressure on them all night. It was a good win for us against a very good Seattle squad."

Vernon Teel had 24 points, adding 10 assists and eight rebounds as the Lions finished the game shooting 59.3 percent from the field and hitting 36-for-44 free throws. Seattle hit 41.6 percent from the field as the Lions out-rebounded the Redhawks, 43-31.

Jarred DuBois added 21, hitting 11-of-12 free throws. LMU's leading scorer, Drew Viney, finished with 19 points and seven rebounds. Kevin Young added 15 points and eight rebounds. LaRon Armstead came off the bench to score 11, going perfect from the all points on the floor. He was 3-for-3 from the field, 1-for-1 from the three-point line and 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. Ashley Hamilton added 10 to round out the scoring.

Mike Boxley led Seattle with 21 points.

LMU did most of the damage from the paint, outscoring Seattle 42-28 from the paint. LMU finished the game attempting just seven three-pointers, hitting four them.

It was a back-and-forth contest at the start, featuring eight lead changes and four ties in the first half. LMU led 46-40 at the break, but found themselves down by a pair, 54-52, with 14:42 to play in the second half.

Then in a blink, the Lions turned the deficit into a 10-point lead, as they went on a 14-2 run in a span of 2:18 to take a 66-56 lead with 12:05 to play.

The Lions stretched the lead to as many as 17, 80-63, on a LaRon Armstead three-poitner with 6:40 to play. The Redhawks would get no closer than 10 the rest of the way as the Lions scored 58 points in the second half.

The Lions finish non-conference play at Cal State Bakersfield on Sunday, Jan. 3 at 3 p.m. The game can be heard on KXLU 88.9 FM.
