LOS ANGELES, Calif. -
After completing finals this week, the LMU swimming team will hit the water against Cal Baptist and Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday at 12 p.m. at Burns Aquatics Center. The home double-dual meet, which will also feature men's competition between Cal Baptist and Bakersfield, will be the first of the season for the Lions.
The Lions last competed at the AT&T Short Course National Championships from December 3-5. There, LMU's 200 freestyle relay team of Carolyn Pasque, Isabella Zhang, Camille Hopp and Anne Scott combined for a time of 1:35.25. The Lions' time put them in the "B" final, where they finished third in that race (11th overall) with a time of 1:34.83. Scott went on to become the lone Lion to compete in an individual final, finishing the preliminaries for the 100 freestyle in 50.85. That mark put her in a tie for 25th overall en route to a spot the `C' final. Scott swam nearly an identical race in the final, stopping the clock in 50.84 to claim 21st overall and fifth in the `C' final.
Cal State Bakersfield last hit the water against San Diego State on December 5. Senior diver Victoria Kreutz scored season-best marks in the one and three-meter spring board diving events, but the Aztecs won the dual 123-105. Kreutz totalled 267.90 points in six dives off the one-meter board and 284.80 in six dives off the three-meter board. On the swimming side, the Roadrunners also got a handful of solid performances. Stephanie Donnelly placed second in the 200 back in 2:13.38. Michelle Kroll was fourth in the event in 2:16.54. Brooke Penney placed third in the 50 free in 25.61. Freshman Olivia Ramos had a strong day in the distance free events, scoring a season best 11:18.95 in the 1,000 free and recording the second fastest time in the 500 free (5:27.65). Rachel Holm scored the second fastest time in the 200 breast (2:29.37) and also had a solid 2:19.78 in the 200 IM.
Cal Baptist University last appeared competitively at the 2009 Toshiba Classic, posting an impressive showing in a meet laden with NCAA Division 1 talent. The Lancer men finished the three-day meet in eighth place overall with 277 points, falling in behind only NCAA Division 1 opponents. On the women's side, CBU grabbed 21st place with 65 points.
