Los Angeles, CA (July 3, 2007) - The 2007 Western Water Polo Association announced the 2006 Men's Water Polo and 2007 Women's Water Polo All-Academic Teams. The team consists of members who were one of the top-10 student-athletes on the respective institutions' team, carried a 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale), classified a full-time student who has completed a minimum of one semester or two quarters at his institution. There were eight members of the Loyola Marymount men's and women's water polo teams on this year's All-Academic squad.

Highlighting this year's group is fifth-year senior Stacia Peterson. With a perfect 4.0 in the Master's of Education program, Peterson was named the WWPA Women's Player of the Year while claiming third-team All-America and third-team CoSIDA Academic All-America honors. Peterson finishes her career second all-time in career goals.

Peterson was joined on the WWPA All-Academic team by Crisara Abrams, Cara Colton, Katie Hicks and Alex Wike. Hicks finishes her career third all-time in career goals and earned a Studio Arts degree with a 3.59 GPA. Wike, a Psychology major has a 3.35 GPA while Colton finished her career with a degree in Liberal Studies and a 3.16 GPA. Rounding out the list was Abrams with a 3.11 GPA in Psychology.

On the men's side, junior Shaun Flood, sophomore Tim Heafner and Julien Lormant were named to the Men's All-Academic team.

All three will be the leaders of the Lions' squad heading into the 2007 season. Heafner is a Business Administration major with a 3.68 GPA while Flood and Lormant each have 3.03 GPAs. Flood is a Biology major with Lormant is the Television Production program.
