LOS ANGELES, Calif. - LMU women's basketball head coach Julie Wilhoit announced today that Taylor Shead, a guard from Plano, Texas, has signed a letter of intent to join the Lions in the fall of 2007. Shead joins Renahy Young and Melanie Ysaguirre who signed letters of intent with LMU last fall.
"Taylor is a tremendous athlete-she is also an excellent student. Her athleticism on the court makes her a special basketball player. She has the skills that will allow her to develop not only as a basketball player but also as a student here at LMU. We are very excited to welcome Taylor and her family to our program," said Wilhoit.
Shead, a 5-10 guard, played her high school basketball at Plano West High School in Plano, Texas. As a senior, she averaged 11.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 3.2 assists per game. She helped her team reach the regional semifinals, serving as team captain. Shead earned first team All-District 5A honors and is a member of the National Honor Society. As a junior, she helped lead her team to the Texas 5A State Championship.
An outstanding athlete, Shead also was earned All-State honors in track in the 100, 200 and long jump.
In March, the Lions advanced to the championship game of the WCC Tournament and finished the season with a 19-12 record.
