Lions Take Pair

Los Angeles, CA (Mar. 24) -- The Loyola Marymount University women's water polo team opened the 2006 LMU Invitational with a pair of victories on Friday at the Burns Recreation and Aquatics Center. The Lions earned a 19-1 win over Chapman in the morning game then earned a 12-3 win against Western Water Polo Association foe Cal State Bakersfield.

The Lions pair was part of eight games in the first day of the Invitational the final eight games of the nine-team tournament will be on Saturday at the Burns Cetner. The Lions improve to 12-3 on the season and 2-0 against WWPA foes.

In the first game 13 different Lions scored, including three from sophomore Christine Robinson. Kellen Fletcher, Keely Wimer, Kristina Fernandez, Charis Ceniseroz and Sheena Carter all scored their first goal of the season. For Ceniseroz she knocked in two goals. Also scored twice was Dora Szabolcsi, Katie Hicks and Nicole Hughes.

A trio of Lions paced the Lions in game two as they scored five in the final frame to break the game open. Junior Katie Hicks, junior Cara Colton and freshman Nicole Hughes all scored three goals each.

The Lions will play Cal State San Bernardino at 10:40 a.m. and then close the tournament against Colorado State at 4:05 p.m.
