May 17, 2004

Los Angeles, CA (May 16) -- The Loyola Marymount University women's water polo team put the wraps to the most successful season in program history with a number two ranking in the final national poll released on May 12.

The Lions, who advanced to the first NCAA National Championship game in school history (of any sport), finished with 93 points to earn the number two ranking by the US Water Polo Coaches Association. USC, who escaped the Lions in the championship title 10-8, finished first.

The ranking for the 25-6 Lions is the highest ranking in a final poll in school history. The baseball team was ranked number one during the season in 1986. The ranking concludes the most successful season for the program, setting a program-mark in wins.
