San Luis Obispo, Calif. - Loyola Marymount swimming earned its first dual win of the 2004-05 campaign in its second weekend of action, defeating Cal Poly 195-95. Six of the ten Lions who had a share in the event titles were freshmen, as the young squad starts its season momentum.

Freshman Maggie Brophy was one of five Lions to win two individual events to lead the Lions to the dual meet win in Cal Poly's Mott Pool. Brophy was the meet's top finisher in the 200 free (1:57.84) and the 500 free (5:17.04).

Sophomore Morgan Finley and freshman Angela Samuels also combined for five addition event titles for LMU, with Finley winning the 100 (1:07.51) and 200 (2:31.38) breast. Finley edged teammate Liz Magura by just .60 in the 200 breast, but Magura went on to win the 1000 free with a time of 10:52.17.

Samuels won the 100 fly with a mark of 1:02.03 and teamed with Finley, sophomore Amanda Luciano, and freshman Katie Hicks, to take first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:54.57.

Hicks also swam on the winning 200 free relay team with Luciano, Brophy, and Magura (1:41.37).

In addition to swimming the 200 medley, Hicks took the 50 free (25:00) and the 100 free (55.1) titles. The wins made her a double winner along with Brophy, Magura, Finley, and freshman Alicia Royal.

After the tight second place finish in the 200 breast, Magura won the 1000 free title with a time of 10:52.17 and the 200 individual medley (2:15.29). Her 1000 free time (10:52.17) set an all-time program record in just her second collegiate race.

Royal also won the 200 fly (2:17.51) and the 200 back (2:18.47).

The Lions totaled 13 event wins en route to the 195-95 victory.

LMU will use the week to prepare for the annual Pepperdine Invitational, next weekend in Malibu.
