Loyola Marymount was one of three team to go undefeated in the first day of the UC San Diego Arena Invitational in San Diego on Saturday. The Lions join Long Beach State and San Diego State, the three highest ranked teams in the field, to sweep two games on the weekend.

The tournament features 10 of the nation's top 20 teams among its 12 participants.

Sixth-ranked LMU joined the 49ers in the winner's bracket with a 10-2 win over Cal Baptist, followed by a 7-3 defeat of #12 UC Santa Barbara. Fourth-ranked Long Beach State posted victories over #20 Arizona State, 10-2, and #10 Michigan, 13-8, on the day. Seventh-ranked San Diego State rounded out the group of undefeated squads with routs of Cal State Bakersfield and #17 Hartwick College (NY) by scores of 16-5 and 17-8, respectively.

Aztec senior Amber Prestegard topped all players with nine goals on the day. The winner of round-robin play between these three schools on the tournament's final day Sunday, will determine the 2003 Arena Invitational champion.

The Lions defeated Cal Baptist thanks to a pair of goals by Katie Hicks, Jamie Kroeze and Teresa Guidi. They then had goals from seven different players to defeat the Gauchos.
