Lions Split WAC Doubleheader With No. 14 Bulldogs

May 3, 2002

Fresno, CA - The Loyola Marymount University (LMU) softball team split a WAC doubleheader with the 14th-ranked Fresno State Bulldogs shutting out the Bulldogs 1-0 in the first game, and falling 4-0 in the second in Fresno on Thursday.

The Lions scored their only run in the top of the first as Casie Phillips singled to center field to reach first, advanced to second on Danielle Kaminaka's sacrifice bunt, and eventually brought home with Sami Strinz's single, which forced an error by Fresno States first baseman.

Strinz earned the win to improve her record to 12-6 on the season. Fresno States Jamie Southern ( 30-7) suffered the loss.

In the second game the Lions were shut out, but not shut down. Strinz was 2 for 3 on the outing including a double to center in the top of the fourth. Megan Julian was also 2 for 3 on the game, with Trisha Gomes and Christy Cerecedes each picking up base hits for the Lions.

Jennifer Heliotes (16-15) suffered the loss for LMU, as Leslie Poole earned the win for the Bulldogs.

Next, the Lions will close out their regular season on Sunday, May 5 for LMU's Senior Day. Seniors Jennifer Heliotes, Christy Cerecedes, Christine Jolin and Corianne Rogalsky will be honored for their achievements as the only seniors of the Lions' roster.
