Water Polo Moves to No. 7 Ranking

Oct. 9, 2002

The Loyola Marymount Univesity men's water polo team, following a pair of impressive wins against teams in the top-10 last weekend, moved up one spot to number seven in the recent National Collegiate Top-20 rankings.

The Lions earned their second straight win over Long Beach State in triple overtime, 13-12, and then claimed the program's first-ever win over Pacific, 12-7, in the NorCal Tourament last weekend. The two victories pushed the Lions one place over Pacific in the rankings, claiming their highest ranking in program history.

Standford remained at the top of the poll, but UCLA moved to number two and cut the Cardinal's margin by claiming the championship at the NorCal Tournament. Stanford and UCLA are followed by USC, UC Irvine, California, Pepperdine and then the Lions.

LMU will take on UCLA on Sunday, Oct. 13 and 11th-ranked UC San Diego on Friday, Oct. 11.
