Malibu, Calif. - The Loyola Marymount University swim team opened its season this past weekend at the Malibu Invitational, hosted by Pepperdine Invitational. Junior Krista Zabor led the Lion sprinters, while sophomore Breanne Melconian led the LMU distance swimmers.

Zabor placed third in the 100-yard (1:10.33) and 200-yard (2:32.05) breaststrokes, fourth in the 50-yard breaststroke (33.27) and fifth in the 50-yard butterfly (27:69). Melconian earned a third place showing in the 200-yard butterfly (2:19.24), while coming in fourth during the 500-yard freestyle (5:22.84).

Freshman Jenna Cruzat also had a solid collegiate opener with a team-high second place showing in the 50-yard backstroke (29:13), to go with a third place finish in the 200-yard backstroke (2:16.75) and a fourth place effort in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.75).

The Lions return to action this Saturday, when they host the Fresno State Bulldogs at the Burns Aquatics Complex. Action begins at 1:30.
