Jackson Metichecchia Headshot

Jackson Metichecchia

Jackson Metichecchia begins his second year on the LMU coaching staff in 2018.

Metichecchia, who took over the men's head coaching reins at Santa Monica College when John Mayer was named LMU beach volleyball head coach headed into the 2016 season, has coached club volleyball throughout Southern California for the last 10-plus years, most recently as Sunshine's 16 Westside head coach.

Working as an assistant coach on the SMC men's team under Mayer, the team won the state championship in 2015 and was runner-up in 2014. SMC has made the final four in four of the last five years.

Extending his coaching talent to the beach, Metichecchia worked with USA Beach National Team pair Brooke Sweat and Summer Ross in the summer of 2018 as they won a bronze medal at the Fort Lauderdale five-star major. Strengthening ties to LMU, he is also working with the team of Emily Day and Betsi Flint - both former Lion players.

In his first year with LMU in 2017, Metichecchia helped the Lions to a 16-13 overall record, including a 9-9 mark in the WCC to earn a share of fourth place in the conference standings. The Lions featured six players who took home WCC All-Academic honors, while three more earned All-WCC selections. Playing an extremely tough schedule, eight of LMU's 13 losses came to a team that at least received votes in the AVCA poll. The WCC leader in service aces with 202 (1.87 per set), LMU finished the year ranked sixth in the nation in the category - posting the fifth-most aces in LMU history.

Metichecchia is a multi-sport athlete who grew up playing basketball and volleyball in Littlerock, California. He earned All-League honors in both sports at Littlerock High School, and played club ball at Revolution. Jackson continued playing at Pierce College from 2008 -- 2010, earning First Team All-Conference honors. He then transferred to Mount Olive College in North Carolina, where he was awarded All-Conference honors, won a conference championship, and led the NCAA Division I-II in assists per set during the 2011 season.
