    Assistant Coach

Former University of Washington standout Kasey Stanchek has joined the LMU softball coaching staff, first-year Head Coach Sami Strinz-Ward announced Aug. 3, 2015.

Stanchek pitched for the Huskies from 2012-15, capping her career this past spring with a run into the NCAA Tournament.

"I am ecstatic to add Kasey to our LMU family," said Strinz-Ward. "Kasey is passionate about growing the game of softball, has tutored under some of the greatest pitching minds in the game, and will be a tremendous pitching coach for us. Her experience competing at the highest level in a hugely respected program will help us in our vision of turning our organization into a top 25 team. She is focused, dedicated, and hugely competitive. She is a winner."

After making 40 appearances and 21 starts over the course of her freshman, sophomore and junior seasons, Stanchek started a staff-high 28 games in 2015. She registered a staff-high 15 wins with an overall record of 15-8, including 10 complete games and 90 strikeouts.

A two-time All-Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention selection, Stanchek earned her Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies from the University of Washington in 2015.

"I am extremely excited for the opportunity that Coach Strinz-Ward and Dr. Husak have given me," said Stanchek. "I look forward to helping LMU Softball grow as a program and helping the student-athletes grow individually throughout their careers. I welcome the challenge of building my own experience as a coach while fostering a competitive environment for collegiate players to thrive."

Stanchek spent the summer of 2015 in Munich, Germany, working with Haar Disciples to coach young athletes on the fundamentals of softball. In addition to working numerous softball camps and clinics at UW, she was a member of the student-athletes' Peer Advocate Group, mentoring fellow student-athletes. She also served as a program leader at Z-Girls, working with girls on goal setting, positive self-talk, confidence, communication, support systems, body image and sports nutrition.

Stanchek hails from El Dorado Hills, Calif., and prepped at Oak Ridge High School. She helped lead the Trojans to three straight Sierra Valley Conference Championships and three straight CIF SAC-Joaquin Section titles. A three-time first teal All-Sierra Valley Conference selection, Stanchek earned league MVP honors following her senior season in 2010. She also played for the Sorcerer club team.
